The Michigan Department of Corrections is pleased to announce the Grand Opening of our Vocational Village at the Parnall Correctional Facility. You are cordially invited to attend the Open House to showcase our training facility and programming on Wednesday, August 30th. The Vocational Village is a first-of-its-kind Skilled Trades training program that aims to provide a positive learning community for prisoners who are serious about completing Career and Technical Education. The goal is to help students achieve advanced skills and industry recognized credentials that will make them quality employees when they are released into the community. It has long been documented how important having a stable income can reduce recidivism.
Current training programs include: CNC/Machine Tool, Masonry and Concrete, Building Trades/Carpentry, Auto Mechanics and CDL/Truck Driving. If you cannot attend but would like to invite colleagues from your organization – or if you aware of other organizations or employers who would be interested in attending – we encourage you to share the attached flyer or send us their contact information so we can formally invite them. We will be raffling off an item made by our Building Trades/Carpentry program and your business card will be the raffle ticket, so please ensure you bring your card as well as any paperwork about your company that you would like to share.
Attached is the flyer for the event. If you would like to attend, please RSVP and submit your lien clearance to me by August 23rd. Below is the timeline for the event. On the day of the event, please ensure that you bring identification with you and leave cell phones and electronics in your locked vehicles. There will be light refreshments provided by the Food Technology program.
We look forward to showing you our programs and highlighting the skills and successes of our students.
Feel free to reach out with any questions you may have.
